Talbot Park, Kidderminster's newest green space, has been named Project of the Year at the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) Midlands Awards 2026. The park won in the £3m–£10m category.
Judges described it as "a standout project, delivered with engineering excellence, innovation and flawless safety", highlighting its striking design and outstanding collaboration with stakeholders.
About Talbot Park
The park opened in May 2026 as part of Wyre Forest District Council's regeneration of central Kidderminster. It was funded by a grant from the Government's Future High Streets Fund.
The space includes a children's play area and provides residents and visitors with somewhere to meet, relax and socialise. It also improves connectivity across the town centre, strengthening the link between Worcester Street and Bromsgrove Street and connecting key areas.
Delivery and Challenges
Civil engineering contractor McPhillips worked alongside Wyre Forest District Council to deliver the project. The council and McPhillips were also highly commended in the Client Team of the Year Award.
Paul Inions, Managing Director at McPhillips, noted that Talbot Park presented a complex scheme with technical and logistical challenges due to buried structures, complex demolition debris and steep site gradients. The team demolished several buildings including a derelict former Woolworths store in a busy town centre location.

Councillor Dan Morehead, Wyre Forest District Council's Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration, Planning and the Green Agenda, said: "This is fantastic recognition for Talbot Park and everyone who helped bring it to life. The park has already become an important new space in Kidderminster town centre, giving families, residents and visitors somewhere attractive to enjoy."
