Wyre Forest District Council will hold a flag-flying ceremony to mark Merchant Navy Day on Thursday 3 September at Wyre Forest House, Finepoint Way, Kidderminster.
The ceremony will begin at 9.40am with a formal welcome from Chairman of Wyre Forest District Council, Councillor George Connolly. The Chairman, joined by standard bearers, will raise the flag. Members of the public and service organisations are invited to attend.
Refreshments will be available in Wyre Forest House reception after the ceremony.
About Merchant Navy Day
Merchant Navy Day honours and remembers the bravery and sacrifice of Merchant Navy seafarers. Their efforts kept vital supply lines open during global conflicts including the world wars, and during more recent crises such as the Covid-19 pandemic.
Today, merchant seafarers handle 95% of the UK's traded goods, while continuing to face serious challenges around the world, including the ongoing situation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Councillor Connolly said: "Flying the Red Ensign is an important opportunity for us to recognise the vital contribution Merchant Navy seafarers have made to our country, both in times of conflict and today. We hope residents will join us at Wyre Forest House to show their thanks and support for those who help keep the UK connected to the world."
